Is it time to employ the metal shop!?

Yes, please!

Oh beer!  I've been neglecting my beloved homebrew blog.  While daddy daycare has taken its' toll on blogging, my homebrewing didn't fall off the deep end.  This summer I did manage to have an insane hop harvest, fill all 10 of my corny kegs with homebrew, attend NHC, and host two beer events.  All this while taking care of the little one while my wife returns to work; I'd say mission accomplished.

Like many other obsessed homebrews, I've had a MoreBeer! BrewSculpture on my agenda since they were first available.  The budget seems to be closing in and any given incentive discount could trigger a call to MoreBeer's metal shop (there's typically a discount for the base sculpture during fall).

Big Bottle Birthday

Inebriated adventures are in abundance around here.  Much so that I quickly get behind in blogging all the shenanigans.  Though my Big Bottle Birthday happened nearly two months ago, I had to post a couple of pics of that epic mid-week night.  Among other bottled beers we consumed that evening, the main event was a 6L bottle of Duvel:

Of course, we had help from family and friends.   Soon after dusting the bottle, the party got so out of hand that they had to shut down the grid.  The neighborhood went dark and we were forced to continue drinking games under candle light.

As to be expected, the 2007 Duvel was really good.  It was picked up at Hi-Time Wine Cellar in Costa Mesa, CA.  Hi-Time is a gem in Orange County and while this particular bottle wasn't inexpensive, they typically have reasonable prices and a great selection.  Big bottled beer is not economical, but hey, it was my birthday!   What does one do with an empty 6L bottle?  Not sure.  Got ideas?

I had a blog for a number of years through Brewcommune.com, a small online homebrewing community. During the fall of 2007, the site was hacked and I lost all of my posts and blog entries. Though I considered moving the blog to somewhere more modern prior to the attack, I was quite comfortable blogging through their phpBB mod system. Another brewing blogger at brewcommune.com, ChupaLaHomebrew (gotta love a username like that), moved to blogging here at blogger.com. So now I'm back in to homebrew blogging!
Today, I'm heading out to my hop farm to see the winter damage and prepare for the season. For the top two rows, this will be their 4th season.
